Boys Over Flowers Premiers with High Ratings on Philippine Television

The 2009 Korean hit drama Boys Over Flowers has premiered on ABS-CBN last night (May 11, 2009) with a rating of 24.6% on the primetime program spot according to TNS Philippines Television Audience Measurement.

Boys Over Flowers, also known as Boys Before Flowers or Kkot boda Namja in Korean, has been pitted against the 2008 Taiwanese hit drama Fated to Love You on the same time slot. Fated to Love You which aired its 58th episode last night had 19.5% ratings in rank 10 while the premier episode of Boys Over Flowers had 24.6% ratings in rank 8.

The primetime overall rankings for May 11, 2009 from 6pm to 12 midnight according to TNS are as follows:
1. May Bukas Pa (ABS-CBN) - 38.7%
2. Tayong Dalawa (ABS-CBN) - 37.5%
3. Only You (ABS-CBN) - 36.8%
4. TV Patrol World (ABS-CBN) - 29.1%
5. Zorro (GMA) 25.6%
6. 24 Oras (GMA) - 25.2%
7. Carlo J. Caparas' Totoy Bato (GMA) – 25%
8. Boys Over Flowers (ABS-CBN) - 24.6%
9. All About Eve (GMA) - 20.1%
10. Fated To Love You (GMA) - 19.5%

In comparison, AGB Nielsen Philippines has the following primetime overall rankings for May 11, 2009:

With the F4 craze back again in Philippine shores, Filipinos are looking forward for the Korean F4 namely Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum and Kim Joo together with Goo Hye Sun who played Geum Jan Di to promote the drama in the Philippines. When the drama premiered in Japan last April 12, the main cast flew to Japan a few days later for the Japan promotions, so the hopes are high that they will also do the same in the Philippines.

Six years ago, Filipinos hearts were captured by the storyline of Kamio Yoko's Hana Yori Dango when ABS-CBN aired the Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, the first ever Asian drama in Philippine television history. Meteor Garden had earned an average rating of 62% and an all-time high rating of 73% on its peak when it was first aired. Music videos of the Taiwanese F4 were also been continuously played in music channels at that time. The Taiwanese F4 and Barbie Hsu had visited the Philippines a number of times for promotions, fashion shows and concerts. Japan's version Hana Yori Dango, on the other hand, was aired in GMA7 last 2007 (?).

well im not really surprised to hear this because the drama is really great.. i have also seen the fated to love you drama and in my opinion boys over flowers story wins hands-down..
