actually it depends on the user contentment: different brands serve different purposes.

Toshiba is one of the best known brands i know but it is expensive compared to others with similar specifications

Macs are also good & great for multimedia & artistic types

Compaq is good because you can put other upgrades in them without interface problems.

Dell & the one with the cow print logo make sure you can ONLY use *their* parts in their machines.
