Bernice Jan Liu, also known as Liu Bik-Yee (廖碧兒; pinyin: Liào Bì'ér) (born January 6, 1979) is a former pageant winner and is now an actress with TVB in Hong Kong.

Bernice Liu was born and raised in Prince Rupert, British Columbia (Canada). Her career in the Hong Kong entertainment industry kick started in 2000 when she was the winner of the Miss Chinese Vancouver pageant. Bernice attended the University of British Columbia prior to winning. She went on to represent Vancouver in Hong Kong at the Miss Chinese International pageant in 2001. She won the judges over with her beautiful dancing which is what she is known for by some Hong Kongers. After winning her latest pageant, she signed a contract with Hong Kong's leading TV company, TVB.

There are many rumors swirling around suggesting Bernice dated fellow Virtues of Harmony co-star, Hawick Lau Hoi-Wai and more recently, her Love Bond and Healing Hands III co-star, Moses Chan Ho.

Liu has also hopes of becoming a singer having some experience with 2 TVB themesongs already sung. She contributed to the Love Bond sub-themesong (心花放 and most recently sang the themesong for the TVB series, Into Thin Air called "實情" (Truth) which she also got 2 awards for. Now, she has a new song for the upcoming series "突圍行動" (Brink of Law) called "分手" (Break up) which is going to be in TVB's new CD, 金牌女兒紅 (All About Women). Bernice came through as a dark horse candidate in snagging the #2 spot among TVB's top-earning artists of 2006.

In the summer of 2006, Bernice earned a contract with Nike and became the first Asian spokesperson for the company. Her posters are now all over Asia promoting Nike yoga products.

Bernice Liu's JSG Newcomer Award Does Not Receive Positive Reaction from Audience

Despite this year's list of hot contenders for TVB's Jade Solid Gold Newcomer Award, Bernice Liu ended up bringing home the award. Since Bernice is TVB's contracted artist, it was inevitable that there would be rumors of the results being "fixed." When the award results were announced, the audience did not have any reaction. While singing, Bernice ran short of breath and it was difficult to hear what she was singing.

Many female artists such as Twins, Cheng Yung, Tse On Kei, and Wing Yi wore tube dresses and revealed their sexy shoulders last night at JSG's award ceremony.

Cheng Yung was one of the first singers to receive an award last night for her song "Red Green Light." Host Eric Tsang poked fun at Cheng Yung's petite frame, saying she was Lam San San's successor.

Alex Fong, Stephy Cheng, Wong Yuen Chi, Cheung Ging Hin etc. made their appearances as rumored couples during their performances.

Eric Tsang pointed out that less singers make their appearances at the Jade Solid Gold award ceremonies year after year. The trend is like a long term illness and this year's awards had the lowest artist attendance rate.

Andy Lau also said there is no more "fairness" nor "unfairness" about the award results. Andy said, "Attending the JSG awards gives me happiness, fame, and a chance to spend time with fans. I continue to support JSG. Hopefully everyone will not find me too thick-skinned [by continuing to attend] and blocking other people!"

Steven Ma Denies Falling Out with Bernice Liu

Steven Ma and Bernice Liu were filming yesterday for new series "The Entire City Dances" and they made their responses to an untrue rumour. They were filming an argument scene earlier, but when the press took the photograph of the scene, they suggested that Bernice kept having NG's (outtakes) and this made Steven angry. Steven says: "The reporters did ask me some questions, but I just talked about the storyline. I also said that having worked with Bernice before, we had an understanding. With such a serious answer, they still had to make something up."

Steven hopes that in the Year of the Pig, he can distance himself from such pointless reports: "My sign clashes with the stars this year, but it is not too bad. There will not be so much luck in romance, but there will be a lot of people helping me out and I have even received an offer of work for a stage show in April in America and Canada." Bernice says: "There is no need to clarify these things, the viewers who have watched me for a while will understand. When I was filming for 'Healing Hands', they siad I was always losing my temper, but that was what my character was like!"

Michelle Yim, Bernice Liu and Kenneth Ma are promoting their new series "The Brink of Law" and were invited onto Nancy Sit's radio show yesterday for an interview. When Nancy laughed about their pledge at an earlier water games promotion that they would all appear in swimsuits, she turned to Michelle and said: "With such a good figure, it would be a shame to hide it away."

Bernice was a little husky-voiced yesterday and she indicates that she went back to Canada on a flying visit earlier to take part in her grandfather's 80th birthday and grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary celebration. The return flight was over thirty hours, but she only stayed for about 10 hours at her destination. The rush has left her feeling unwell. She smiles: "I have a large family, so we had 20 tables at the banquet and we had arranged to have a family photograph taken. As the series 'The Entire City Dances' was late starting filming, it left me in quite a rush, but it was a very meaningful trip. (Do your elders rush you to get married?) We did not have much time to chat, we ate and then we rushed back to the airport where we went off in our different ways." As for the rumours that she has fallen out with Fala Chen during filming, she says: "The storyline says that we don't get on and from the beginning for over ten episodes, we do not get along. This is the script though and the magazines are just telling you the story."

Michelle indicates that she will be playing a villain in "Brink" and she smiles that she has waited a long time for this role, but she was worried at first that she could not pull it off. The producer was confident in her though and when her friends' children watched her performance, they asked why she was so nasty, proving how convincing her acting was.

Despite not being fully well, Bernice attended the promotional event for her new television series, ‘The Brink of Law’ (突圍行動. She did not play any games but took on the role of a happy cheerleader instead. Bernice commented, “I am scared of heights so even if I am not sick, I still would not go on any scary rides. The ferris-wheel is the only scary ride I go on.”

Regarding her illness, Bernice stated, “Twice I went into the hospital because of a fever. Once, I even fainted at home, thankfully my uncle was there.” Although TVB has allowed her to take a few days off, Bernice has returned to work to avoid delays in the filming of a television series. Bernice expressed, “The company has been nice, the jobs they have given me in the past few days have been relaxing and simple.”
