Based On Yang Jinyuan Novel

Director: Feng Xiaogang
Screenplay: Liu Heng
Cinematographer: Lu Yue

Zhang Hanyu as Gu Zidi

Story:
About a military unit in the great and latest civil war in China: Guomintang Vs Red army. This unit is sent to the front in order to hold the frontline against a vast amount of enemies while they are ignorant to the fact that their own main force is retreating. They are regarded as "expendable".
The unit is later "forgotten" and Gu Zidi (Hanyu) seeks to restore the name and honour of the forgotten unit. In his quest he discovers how things have changed in the society and he is entangled in the mighty web of the communist government and officials. Only with his own will, might and preserverence he will succeed in his quest.

Rating: 10/10
A really impressive peace of work. A work of Art. This is probably the best Chinese modern war movie ever made. I really enjoyed this movie the first time, second time and third time I watched it and I still want to watch it again. The fighting scenes are brilliant, vast inspired by "Saving Private Ryan" filming techniques, and it gives the viewer the extra adrenaline kick and viewing pleasure as if you where there with them.
Some of the scenes after the war are powerfull in their own way and gives us an indication of the main characters stubborness and will to succeed. The ending is of course pro Communist and hails the values of men and women who fought for their country.
