RE: are books really better than the movies?
YES. Period.

Books are definitely better than the movies especially if the movie is adapted from 'em because most of the time they cut out important things. For example, in the Lord of the Rings movie, they did not include Tom Bombadil, that great man of the forest, the only one who the ring had no power over.. i think that was a pretty important part.

In the Harry Potter movies, well, I was quite disappointed with the 3rd movie (what can I expect from that new director, no offense). They cut a few important things too. Can't blame 'em.. the movie might become too draggy.

The Notebook and A Walk to Remember are better read first.

I haven't watched Devil Wears Prada, Eragon or Chronicles of Narnia though so I can't compare yet. Oh, and there's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Smile

I prefer books 'cause they help your imagination power to a great extent!! Watchin' movies doesn't help it much.

I agree with silvermyst--Tom Bombadil was just about my favorite character in The Lord of the Rings, and they just cut him out!
I think when a movie is adapted from a book or vice versa, the original is usually better because it stays true to the vision of whoever first thought it up.

i prefer the books because with the books you can imagine your own visual of the characters and scenes and what not. but when it's made into the movie usually they would choose an actor or scene that didnt match your expectations or they took out a part that might have been significant to you. sometimes they add random parts or mix it around which irritates me >:T

I think that it depends. For me I love the books way more than the actual movies. They cut out some of the best parts and it seems like they just sum up the book. I mean I would still watch the movies because I want to see which parts are exciting enough to be put into the movie but i would much rather read the book.

I think that books are better than movies because with a book your imagination becomes the screen. The characters can look any way you choose, the possibilities are endless. While with a movie someone else is dictating imagery and intensity.

Neh, book are more detail and more excitement that movie.. while in the big screen they cut it. If you dont want to disappoint, watch the movie first before reading the book.... Big Grin
