JAKARTA, Indonesia - Hady Mirza, Singapore Idol Season 2 winner, has been crowned the first ever Asian Idol during the Results Night in Jakarta on Sunday. Hady Mirza defeated five other Idol winners from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
On an interview, Hady Mirza earlier said: "The pressure I think is that it's going to be shown across six countries. I started off being quite nervous. But then, as we went along, it was fine and I did pretty well. I think I did pretty well and I'm happy with my performance."
The voting kicked off during the Performance Night and lasted for 24 hours. To ensure fairness, every vote should have two countries to neutralise the bigger populations of big countries like India and Indonesia.
Win or loss, this contest will surely gave the six contestants the exposure beyond their own national boundaries.
