When I was watching Taiwan dramas, I discovered that they refer to the years by
民国
年次

What's that mean? How different is their year with ours.

If I'm correct, this has to do with the year Taiwan was founded. I believe you have to subtract 1911 from the present year [2009] to get their version of the country's years. Correct me if I'm wrong, my memory isn't so good :]
