So I take it everyone here reads manga rather frequently, so who is your favorite manga artist (manga-ka)?

Personally, I LOVE Yuu Watase and Kaori Yuki.

Yuu Watase's shojo manga is usually fairly simplistic almost to the point of being predictable now, especially in the "love riangle" department...
But that doesn't really bother me because the plot lines are always interesting.

Kaori Yuki is just amazing.
I can't think of anything else to say about her.
Where Watase is simple, Yuki is complex, in depth, and completely submersive. Though, this attention to detail can be a little over-whelmign sometimes. That's when its time to take a breather and read some Watase manga.

So, who's your favorite manga-ka?
Shuichi Shigeno

Something magical happens when Shigeno-sensei touches pencil to paper and begins to render the street poetics of drifting, oversteering, powersliding, and studder cuts. His visual palette in Initial D is grace personified - characters, cars, and movement leap off the page with power ... and with an economy of stroke that is stunning.

A veteran manga-ka (manga artist), Shigeno-sensei is also known as the creator of an earlier series on motorbike racing called Bari Bari Densetsu

Yep he is my favourite since I love initial d and cars!
^ Ah, you sound just like my friend Danny.

haha

Shuichi Shigeno is his favorite manga-ka too.
Though, I can't say I've ever read any of his work...

If you had to recommend just 1 of his series' to check out, which one should I try first?
Uh initial d lol. But if you mean series in initial d then I say start from beginning.
^ Wait.

Is Initial D the only thing he's ever done?
O___O

That's... Weird...
Can you really consider him a veteran if he's only done 1 substantial body of work?
Although I haven't read much manga... I really like Ken Akamatsu's style in Love Hina.

Lol I actually don't know if he has done anything else than initial d. I think he has done some small works but didn't really make it big like initiald d. I wouldn't call him a veteran but I like his work for initial d.
DEATH NOTE!!!da best
^ You know, everyone always says that...

But really, I bought the first manga after it got so big and was extremely unimpressed. I never bought the second book.

I don't know, maybe it gets better later, but I think the plot drags way too much. The premise is nice, but it's not well executed. At least not in the first volume...
wahh~ ^^ takeshi obata! i love his style. deathnote and hikaru no go were really awesome to look at, as well as read. :] i also like masami tsuda. haha. her art is so.. cute! XD and can't forget tite kubo :3

they're all equal standing to me. :]
