Andy Lau

Andy Lau Tak-wah (Traditional Chinese: 劉德華; Simplified Chinese: 刘德华; pinyin: Liú Déhuá; Cantonese: Làu Dākwà) (born September 27, 1961 in Hong Kong as 劉福榮 Làu Fūkwìng) is a Hong Kong pop star and a movie actor.

The first lead role that made his initial popularity was the TVB series Hunting in 1982. In the same year, Andy began acting in his first movie Boat People. Later in 1983, his role as Yang Guo in wuxia TV serial The Return of the Condor Heroes made him even more popular and landed him his first leading role in a Shaw Brothers' film called On the Wrong Track.

Andy's most recent role was in Battle of Wits in 2006.

He is also one of the more successful Chinese music celebrities, with an extensive list of Cantonese and Mandarin hits to his credit. His first music contract came in 1985, but his singing career reached stellar status in 1990 with the release of the album entitled 可不可以 "Would It Be Possible?", and his subsequent releases only solidified his status as a marketable singer. Andy Lau along with Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai also named as the Cantopop Four Heavenly Kings (四大天王 Cantonese: sêi daài tïn wong, Pinyin: sì dà tiān wáng).

Andy Lau also entered into Guinness World Records for "Most Awards Won By A Canto-Pop Male Artist". By April 2000, Andy Lau had won an unprecedented 292 awards, for a singing career that began in 1988. Since 1992, Lau has appeared in concert 179 times. That said, sales of his recordings have dwindled from the late 1990s, and while he is still being able to maintain his reputation as a renowned showbiz entertainer, principally by means of his movies, his recording career has been overtaken by the younger generation of singers.

The most notable hits by Andy Lau include 一起走過的日子 (The Days We Passed Together), 愛不完 (Neverending Love), 潮水 (The Tide), 忘情水 (Forget Love Potion), 中國人 (Chinese People), 笨小孩 (Stupid Child), 愛你一萬年 (Love You Forever (lit. Love You For 10,000 Years)), 你是我的女人 (You Are My Woman), 暗裡著迷.

As well as being a versatile singer, Andy Lau also writes lyrics and composes music for many of his songs.

RE: Andy Lau

Everyone MUST love Andy Lau. He's just so lovable! I remember watching this one movie with him in it, can't really remember the name of it, but he played the really overweight guy. Oh yes. Love on a Diet. I think. It was very funny nonetheless XD

RE: Andy Lau

Yes he is loveable lol. Also I heard of Andy and Jay having some disputes but I'm sure they're some rumors so no worries. They just don't seem like the people who would cause a commotion.

Andy and Jay not at good terms

Andy Lau return to Hong Kong after his location shooting in Beijing, a large group of fans welcome him at the airport. Andy was all smiles and appeared in a happy mood. Recently, it was alleged in the Internet that Andy and Jay Chou were not on good terms as they hold grudge against each other.

A netizen revealed in his personal website that 9 years ago, before Jay became popular, he wrote a song 'Yan Lei Zi Dao' for Andy and was turn down thus hurt the feelings of Jay, this song then became the hit song of Landy Wen.

After so many years, Jay has become the music genius of Taiwan, it was pointed out that Andy approached him for a new song but was turned down by Jay as he could not forget Andy's rejection thus he quoted a NT$100 million price to Andy which was immediately turned down by Andy.

According to records, Andy indeed approached Jay for song in 2001 and Jay composed a song for Andy in a short time which was included in Andy's album but not considered a hit song, thus that particular song was not well received.

When Andy's company was contacted, its spokesman expressed that they had not heard of such allegations, thus would not reply to it.

When reporters contact Jay, he discard this allegation as there would be a standard price for writing songs, how could such a heavenly price came about, if friends approached him for song, he would also lowered his asking price. In addition, Andy is his idol, if he would to approach him for a song, how would he reject him. Jay added that the allegation is too far-fetched.

Jet Li whom is collaborating with Andy for the first time in This Violent Land (Ci Ma), they get along very well. Jet revealed that Andy would be helping him to do voluntary work for his charity foundation. He says: "Andy is a very outstanding Hong Kong actor, we get along well during location shooting for past few days. He have already more than 130 movies to his name, his total box office collection is more than HK$70 million, that's incredible! With such high achievements, to be able to collaborate with him delights me, although we're collaborating for the first time, when I brought up to him during the press conference about my charity foundation, he already agreed to do voluntary work for me, giving me a hand to do well in my charity work"
