Following the brutal stabbings of 2 women near the JR Shibuya Station late August, 79-year-old Hatsuko Kitagawa was sentenced to 4 year by the Tokyo District Court today. Kitagawa stabbed a woman in her 20s in the stomach with a fruit knife on Aug 22 and slashed another woman in her 20s several minutes later.
"
Hatsuko Kitagawa committed an extremely heinous crime that caused people to harbor anxiety about safety at public locations," said Judge Yasuhiro Akiba in the decision. Judge Akiba said "
the defendant lost her place to live and sleep and decided to commit a major crime in order to gain care from the police." The judge also said "
