Wonderful news for YG Entertainment new female group 2ne1 and their supporters! They only debuted a month ago on May 6th but they already won three consecutive awards on CyWorld Digital Music Awards.

For the 34th Cyworld Digital Music Awards (April 2009), they won "Song of the Month" for "Lollipop" which they sang with Big Bang. And for the 35th CyWorld Digital Music Awards (May 2009), they won another "Song of the Month" award and a "Rookie of the Month" award for "Fire," their debut song.

The song "Fire" has sold a record of 200,000 singles sold on CyWorld alone, in spite of the song being the most illegally downloaded song on Korea's popular illegal download sites like P2P, Webhard, and other online cafes.

Once again they will be performing on SBS Inkigayo this weekend, May 7. This will be their 3rd performance on a music program since their debut and it happens to be exclusively on SBS Inkigayo. A YG Entertainment representative stated: "... and about the girls not being able to go on KBS and MBC, well, with time everyone will know."

Looks like they're making it big in the Korean scene since the Wonder Girls...

It kinda seems that the Wonder Girls popularity are slowing down now that they're concentrating on debuting in America...

Yeah... some say, it's a wrong move by JYP to make WG concentrate more in the US when they are still considered new in Korea, I think about 2 years in the biz... but they're flying back and forth the 2 countries. I think WG will be in the Dream Concert too, but I'm not sure, I have to check on that... oh they'll also be the opening act on some venues for the Jonas Brothers concert tour...

As for 2ne1, I guess their timing is just right and they're pretty lucky coz Girls Generation just ended their stages so there's not much competition in terms of girl groups...

Yeah it's pretty dumb, America doesn't like girl bands unless they are super slutty like the pussycat dolls

the timing was right for them and that they're image is completely different from that of WG or SNSD. i wonder what the rep meant about the comment "with time everyone will know"? but then i heard te SNSD's comeback will have a more hip hop feel to it... i guess good luck to them and hope the keep on rising!

This is great news for them. Their timing was really good and I agree that Wonder Girls may have migrated a little too early. The image for 2NE1 is different to SNSD and WG, but I think their music is generally listened to by similar groups of people.
I don't really get this comment by the rep:

I've updated the main post with images and the video of their performance during the awards ceremony... it seems my initial news was just the announcement and the awards ceremony was held yesterday (June 10)...
