Korean Rapper CL to Make US Debut

CL, the current rapper of Korean girl band “2ne1” is set to make her US solo debut thanks to a push from Scooter Braun. He’s the same mind behind top acts as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and labelmate PSY. She’s already had a feature on Skrillex’s new album.

Braun found CL to have a very high potential in the US market, despite the complete absence of Asian female artists in the mainstream media. Her rapping, English skills, and “bad-ass” image are all elements that make her very unique and marketable to the US population. It doesn’t hurt that she’s already a well-known icon in Korea for music and fashion.

CL and her band 2ne1 have already been killing it in South Korea. Their latest album Crush became the highest-charting K-pop album in history. Her solo debut in Korea was also an immense success — with her music video receiving over 1 million hits on YouTube in less than 24 hours. You can watch the sexy music video below.

Besides her successes in music, CL has slowly increased her profile in the fashion industry as well, making several appearances at New York Fashion Week. Recently Hypebeast also interviewed her, and she’s also friends with designer Jeremy Scott.

With her high profile in Korea, her badass sex kitten image, and her English proficiency, we expect CL to make a big splash as a US artist.
