Looking for something different eat? Well this new option at a Yokohoma cafe might just hit the spot. Read on to find out more.
Are you tired of your normal burger options? Bison, ostrich, and turkey burgers just not interesting enough for your sophisticated palate? Or maybe you are just French. Whatever the case this new burger at a cafe near Orbi Yokohoma nature museum may be just what you are looking to sink your teeth into next.
Orbi Yokohoma located in Japan’s second largest city of the same namesake, is an interactive nature museum whose goal is to bring informative nature information fused with technology and fun. The museum is gearing up with Sega and Sunshine Aquarium to bring the Deadly Poison Exhibition to Yokohoma of Kanagawa Prefecture March 21-May 17 2015 .
The exhibition will showcase 25 different poisonous animals from around the globe and to commemorate this event Orbi Cafe located nearby Orbi Yokohoma will be offering a new item to their menu: FROG BURGERS!
The burger will set you back 1,000 yen (U.S.$8.34) and is made up of a deep fried frog with its legs sticking out of the two black hamburger buns it is so artfully stuck between. Seriously it looks like an amphibian version of the beginning of The Wizard of Oz, sans striped knees highs and red slippers. But this is Japan, Land of the Rising Weird Fetishes we are talking about here. So who knows, maybe in a week or two some intrepid chef will toss on a pair of tiny sparkling ruby red slippers on Kermit and slap it on the menu.
Now eating frogs is honestly not that uncommon of a practice. Honestly this author has had it several times and it tastes pretty damn good. Some might balk at the idea but just keep in mind frogs are a common delicacy all over the world, from the United States’ long history of southern Cajun cooking found in Louisiana to the aforementioned World War 2 surrendering, Jerry Lewis worshiping, parkour loving French, people have an appetite for amphibians.
Now for those looking for something less savory, and perhaps more appetizing than a sandwich that looks like a meteor fell on a deep fried Keroppi the Orbi also offers a faux frog dish. Called the “Frog Egg Sweet” this sweet dish is playful rendition of frog eggs made out of almond jelly to simulate the texture of frog eggs. It even comes with a little frog made out of jelly!
So if you are looking toadly down for trying something newt, grab a frog burger during Orbi Yokohoma’s Deadly Poison Exhibit!
