If you are visiting China soon make sure you pack your own protection. Read on to find out more.
It pains us to say this, but unfortunately the Middle Kingdom that is China has had throughout the years, shall we say a rather poor reputation for making knockoff and often illegal goods?
From designer handbags to dog food, China has been accused of making fraudulent items that have often put unsuspecting consumers at risk.
Now it seems it is time to add another almost improbable item on that list: knockoff condoms.
A recent bust by Shanghai police uncovered a counterfeit condom manufacturing ring spread across seven provinces and cities racking up 12 million yuan ($1,936,108) in sales!
The authorities arrested 9 people involved in the production of these fake jimmies that were mostly disguised as either Jissbon or Durex brand condoms. Jissbon by the way is China’s largest condom brand named in part after James Bond even though it sounds like the semen from a Cinn-a-bon. We just wanted to clarify that.
Anyway the condoms were being produced in an underground workshop in Yangpu district and sold via QQ across China that including Henan, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hubei, Jiangsu, and Shaanxi.
The condoms are believed to have been sold both directly to consumers and larger distributors such as hotels. Making matters worse, it has been reported that many of the condoms were found to have toxic levels of heavy metals as well.
We are not sure what is worse, a fake condom that could cause you to knock up your loved one, or a fake condom that could cause you to poison your loved one with toxic metals.
Either way the next time we decide to visit China we are damn well making sure we pack EVERYTHING and we do mean EVERYTHING we need.
Last thing we need is to buy condoms that support the corrupt practice of condom sweatshops and their tainted goods let alone worry about getting someone preggers.
