The name “Always Premeditated” represents making a well thought out plan before you take action. It’s a metaphor for having big ambition and goals in life that are planned out and executed for success. That’s the message behind the brand, but it’s also the way that Johnson plans everything in his streetwear business venture — with exact and precise execution.
The inspirations for the designs come from pop culture of the past and present with an added touch and edge. Mingwei Johnson says, “Our design ideas originate from music, movies, politics, and news headlines. Being a kid of the ‘90s, a lot of my inspirations start in that era. Also, because I was raised in the San Francisco Bay area, there is an influence from this culture.”
The brand is anything but subtle. What makes them stand apart from the rest is how blunt and straight to the point they are. While other brands might beat around the bush or censor parts of their message, Always Premeditated tries to tell it like it is. They also try to pair graphics and fonts that elude an emotion to the message.
According to Johnson, “Fashion is constantly evolving and I know to stay interesting and appealing my designs will have to offer something new to the consumer. Within the next year I plan to increase the quality of our shirts and factor out the designs that are less popular. I want to push the envelope with our customers and surprise them with designs that are consistent with our brand culture but step out of the box a little.”
Keep your eye out for this company, who already has tons of designs out on the market and will only get better as time goes on.
