Top 10 Universities for Asian Interests

Written by Tony Yu on October 9, 2008

5 – University of Pennsylvania
UPenn is famous for its wide variety of clubs and activities. If you attend an info session at UPenn, you will get a yellow sheet that lists over 200 clubs and interest group. A good number of these are Asian based. These range from dragon dance club to WTF Tae Kwon Do club to more well-known ones such as the Chinese Student Association. With its vast variety of these interest groups, Asians at UPenn can bond with each other through activities that they enjoy that relate or do not relate to academics. Also, UPenn has many off-campus hang-out places for Asians. These include "hot" hot-pot joints and Thai cuisine diners.

4 – University of California at Davis
Here is where a chain of California schools comes in. However, number 1 is not in California. I'll keep you guessing as I point out the fact that UC Davis has a 41% Asian population. Also, UC Davis has one of the largest athletic programs in the nation. What does this mean for you? Attractive Asians of the opposite sex of course! Still not impressed? Try searching for clubs that deal with the Asian population. You will be astounded by the amount and vast variety of results you get. Furthermore, The Greek life at UC Davis consists of several Asian fraternities/sororities. Many of these have branches all throughout the United States. The weather is good and the Asians are lively!

3 – University of California at Los Angeles
This number 3 school should come of no surprise to you. UCLA has a 38% population, and is one of the most popular schools in the United States that Asians go to. Although the percentage is smaller, UCLA is a bigger school than UC Davis. You do the math. More Asians! UCLA is also home to some of the biggest Asian sororities/fraternities in the United States. Finally, the reason why UCLA is so high on our list is because of the fact that it is located next to the biggest superstar hangout in the world – Hollywood! Take a stroll around LA. You will be surprised as to the number of celebrities you see.

2 – University of California at Berkeley
UC Berkeley is second on our list because first of all, it has the highest Asian population so far, 42%. Secondly, UC Berkeley is an incredibly prestigious school. Less than 10% of out-of-state applications succeed. Since most students at UC Berkley are from California itself, it might be hard at first to meet Asians if you are from out-of-state. However, if you join one of many of its Asian-oriented interest groups, you will find yourself in a "network" of Asians in no time. Also, since it is such a prestigious school, UC Berkeley offers some of the finest Asian classes. Some of these include culture, music, and dance from respective countries in Asia. This is a good way to have fun, meet new people, and be active in school, all at the same time.

1 – University of Hawai'i at Manoa
Ah, finally! We reach number one in our countdown. Did you guess correctly? If so, you probably realized that UH Manoa has 71% Asians! Let me say that again. SEVENTY-ONE PERCENT. If you're a math whiz, you can probably figure out that out of every four people you meet, almost three will be Asian. This also means that the majority of clubs on campus are either Asian-oriented, or contain a massive amount of Asians. Also, the school is home to many natives of Hawai'i, which are in fact Asian. This way, if you are from out-of-state, you can learn the many traditions that Hawai'i has to offer while spending time with potential new friends or lovers. So why Hawai'i? Well, it's the Aloha state of course! With its beautiful weather, many water-based activities (surfing, water skiing, etc…), and not to mention cute guys and girls, it's no wonder Hawai'i is number 1 when it comes to US Asian colleges.
