First, can you tell us where you got your name – Kaystar?
It’s quite complicated to begin actually, but pretty easy to explain! Haha! Ever since I was very young, way back in kindergarten, my teacher would always tell us and remind us every now and then that we are the little shining stars of Earth that God created (I went to a Catholic school), and of course since then I was pretty obsessed with Sailor Moon! My thought was like “I’m a shining star! Cool! A shining sailor star!!!” It got stuck in my head for a while, despite the fact I was obsessed with heart-shaped things!
Up until beginning of high school, I called myself Twinkiie (because I loved eating twinkies), and lots of my friend will call me Twinkiie or Twinks! Haha! But then it got silly and gave some people the wrong impression. I eventually renamed myself K☆Star (Since not many sites can see Japanese keyboard symbols, typed out Kaystar!). K for my real name Kathy, and star as I’ve always told myself I’m a shining little star of earth!! Haha! *tears up*
And since during highschool, I would be wearing star patterned things too!
When did you begin modeling?
Before modelling I was doing freelance photography work! And I was interested in learning more and gaining more experience, I went along with a group of friends in a crew called Izura Productions here in Toronto, not only they do photography but also videography! (Psst, check out their works on Youtube!). During test shoots, I would jump in and asked for pretty photos, it turned out great! It got me more interested in modelling, few years later up until 2012, here I am starting out!
What do you see yourself doing as a profession?
Behind the scenes of an awesome great high-end fashion photoshoot! I also do makeup artistry (currently schooling), so I’m balancing between photography and makeup here and there, I used to have my portfolios up but I like to keep it downlow from now on. I also like to do freelance graphics and web designing work for others and clients. There’s so much I like to do!
How old are you, may I ask?
I’m 20 years…young!
Do you see yourself doing more in the modeling industry?
Any hobbies I take seriously upon is pretty much what I want as a profession! Right now I’m only still fresh in modelling, so who knows what I’ll be doing further along with it, but all I can say is that I do very much enjoy it! It’s so much fun, but of course a lot of hard work and effort to put in! Modelling isn’t that easy. Right now hopefully I’ll be publishing my own manga online! Haha!
What’s one thing you want to experience in the next 5 years?
The one thing I would want to experience in 5 years is travelling the world! I know, it sounds pretty cliche, yet there’s so much out there to explore and learn. I love watching the discovery channel, and learning and seeing other cultures out there gets me easily intrigued!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Sushi, and seafood! HAHA I know it sounds pretty silly, yet I would always beg my family and friends to have something seafood related, or sushi! Since I live alone, I would always get my parents to bribe me with seafood to visit them! Yums! I’m totally obsessed!
Currently, are you single or taken?
Currently single! Not to sound cocky but currently I have a list/line-up of guys who would keep on trying to ask me out.
Oh yeah? So why are you still single?
I haven’t had a boyfriend for almost 2 years now! My last boyfriend broke my heart so much, I guess it’s just hard for me to find someone I really like or connect with, I’m quite insecure too haha! *sadface*
I see, so what would a guy need to do to sweep you off your feet?
I’m quite a strange girl so they have to get comfortable with my silly awkward clumsyness, or go along with it like me! HAHA! But overall, I’m like any other girls who seeks the most common qualities within a guy; sweet, caring, down to earth, confidence..etc. But communication, attitude and respect is a must! Looks isn’t much of a problem for me, it really depends : )
If a guy is interested in you, how should they approach you?
As long as they don’t jump quickly into a random deep serious conversation about relationships or say anything sexual or repeatedly compliment my appearance all the time, I’m quite cool with anything! Overall, I just like to see that sweet smile, smiling makes me happy n__n
What do you like to do on weekends?
Going out with friends and doing whatever the hell we want with our last minute plans, eating out (Sushi!!), drinking at Karaoke and clubbing/partying
What is something crazy about yourself?
I like to come up with the weirdest ideas and stories, I can be quite funny or retarded you might say! Haha! And there’s no difference between me sober and me being drunk! Whenever I have friends over I’ll greet them sometimes by acting like a dufuss or a character from DBZ and start attacking them with imaginary attacks! Sometimes I like to show off to the guys that I’m better than them, I chugged about 5 bottles of vodka! I passed out and my friends had to barricade me with chairs in the corner HAHA, after that I crawled out and went to drink more, they had to push me in the closet and block it with a chair! How embarassing yet funny! Almost everyday is a crazy life for me!
What would you do with a million dollars?
Share it with my parents so my daddy can retire and live his life happily and let my parents travel around! Share it to all my relatives, especially in Vietnam and donate some to charities here in Toronto and in Vietnam too! Of course I gotta save some for myself, it’s quite ok to be slightly selfish!
Do you have a celebrity crush?
To be honest, I had too many! Right now my biggest celebrity crush is G-Dragon from Big Bang!
If you could give a dating tip to guys, what would it be?
Keep yourself clean and fresh! Be casual and be talkative, confidence is also the key!
