ABC's New Asian Sitcom: Fresh off the Boat

Has there ever been a sitcom on a network show that predominantly featured Asians?

Not until now.

While black people had the Cosby's, Family Matters, Fresh Prince, and Hispanics had Ugly Betty & Modern Family, there has never been a TV that featured Asians so prominently.

Fresh off the Boat is a comedy sitcom about the memoirs of celebrity chef Eddie Huang, as his family adapts to moving from DC's Chinatown to suburban Orlando. It's all about living and pursuing the American Dream, and it stars ALL Asians. From the hilarious trailer (below), it seems like it will be a very entertaining show, especially for Asian Americans.

Obviously, some people are going to cry racism. I'm not one of those people. Although yes we do see some stereotypical tropes in the series, I find them to be very entertaining and satirical instead of malicious. It's not unlike the stuff we might see from YouTubers in this modern generation.

The show will premiere in 2014, so expect to see it very soon. So far there's been a mostly positive response, but as with everything there are a few people who are a bit outraged at how Asians are portrayed.

Watch the trailer. Will you watch this show?
