Babe Interview: Josie Lee

Written by Lance on October 6, 2007

AmpedAsia.com: What age did you start you current profession and what caused you to take it up?
Josie: I started modeling at a very late age: 25. I did not want to be a model, because I was terribly shy and didn't like the spotlight. I don't even like Happy Birthday sung to me at a restaurant, because I don't want to be looked at. It's crazy! Well, after two years of intense pressure from my family, I went to a printer and made laser copies of my photos and then submitted my photos to a modeling agency. A week later I got my first modeling job: A PlayStation Video Game character, which was a very cool gig. I realized I enjoyed it.

AmpedAsia.com: How did you picture yourself when you were in High School? Is it similar to how you are now?
Josie: In high school and college I was the cool nerd. An oxymoron? I loved anime, and even joined an anime club. But I was also a cheerleader and had a jock boyfriend. Even at that age, I was told that I should model. That used to make me roll my eyes.

AmpedAsia.com: Any tips for girls looking to go into the industry?
Josie: Go to the best and most exclusive fashion agency that is willing to sign you. They like to see models who are ambitious and will show up to auditions. Also, never pay an agency for anything. The agency makes money from collecting commissions from jobs they get for you. If you don't make money, then they don't make money. You will need a great portfolio, a killer comp card, and don't pay any money for any classes. My agency gave me free acting and runway classes. If they see your potential they will invest in you.

AmpedAsia.com: If you were on a deserted island and you could only bring one person and three items, who would the person be, and what items would you bring?
Josie: The person would be my boyfriend. The three items would probably be: sunscreen, soap, and lotion. I don't need clothes......but hey! I need food, too! May I give up the lotion for a refrigerator full of food? Or will you let me have four items? Pizza delivery?

AmpedAsia.com: Where do you see yourself in the future?
Josie: I am traditional in many ways. We want what our mothers had. We dream about what we wanted, when we were little girls. But I am also a modern woman and want a career that is for myself. I want to find the right man, and settle down and devote my life to him, cater to him yet still have a career and hobbies that enrich the quality of my life. I see many women manage this and I admire it and want it for myself. I would like to learn many languages, obtain a pilots license, continue to travel the world, and many other things.

Oh, and I also want a pug dog.

AmpedAsia.com: If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?
Josie: I wish I had an avid interest in going to the gym. I know I am being lazy, and I know it would be healthy if I went, but I can't stand it. Being on a treadmill makes me feel like I am a hamster in a hamster ball. I can enjoy the cross country machine once every few months. The same goes for the yoga ball thing where I was taught how to use it to do crunches. But it's so boring. The only exercise regimen I like is taking strip tease dance classes. I think that is a cool skill for a woman to have. I would never do it for a living; but I would do it in the living room for Mr. Right. I took a strip tease dance class course in Beverly Hills and none of the students or teachers were strippers. They were doctors, lawyers, bored housewives, dance majors, actresses learning a character study, and overweight woman who were looking for a new fitness trend.

AmpedAsia.com: Wow, that sounds like fun...
