Written by Lance on October 23, 2008
Amped Asia interviews another beautiful import model. Amy Tran tells about her modeling life and even leaks out some dating advice.

AmpedAsia.com: Your ethnicity is Vietnamese right?
Amy Tran: I'm viet/french, a little bit of Spanish and Irish, but I rarely ever say it cause its such a small percentage, but mainly Viet/French.

AmpedAsia.com: Do you speak any viet or french?
Amy Tran: I can speak some Viet but I understand it way better then I speak it and as for French I can only introduce myself haha.

AmpedAsia.com: Where do you currently call home?
Amy Tran: in irvine, California or the "oc"

AmpedAsia.com: What school do you go to?
Amy Tran: I go to Irvine Valley College and plan on transfering to UC Irvine or another university that I get accepted too, but im trying to stay local

AmpedAsia.com: How did you start modeling?
Amy Tran: Growing up I always wanted to fashion model, especially for Victoria's Secret, but I went to a lot of agencies and although a lot liked what they saw, they said my height didn't meet the requirements so it kind of died there. But I'm a huge car enthusiast and I started showing my first ride a civic at HIN and people would pass by and see me detailing the car, they thought I was the model for the car and even the judges did too. so I thought might as well get into it if it pays and I have what it takes. Now im finally leaning more towards the fashion modeling doing more print still cant do the major runways cause of my height but I can do smaller runway shows.

AmpedAsia.com: So what are some misconceptions that you want to share about models and the modeling industry?
Amy Tran: To be honest I don't know, a lot of it is really what you typically see, the stereotypical thing. But I'm not like the stereotypical thing, if u catch what im trying to say, so I believe not all model are as well, but I have yet to find some like me. I thought I might have but a lot have disapointed me. Dont know if u catch my drift haha.

Amy Tran: I have mixed emotions about the industry. It's definately not a pretty scene even though it involves beautiful people, glam, and fame, etc.

AmpedAsia.com: What events are you doing in the coming days?
Amy Tran: I might be working sema, but I'm not sure yet im still in talks with a company. At the moment since school started again, I've done a lot less events and I am now doing more fashion and glamour rather then import.

AmpedAsia.com: what comes first for you? Your education or furthering your modeling career?
Amy Tran: I messed up and i'll admit it...after highschool I kept going in and out of college for the first two semesters cause I got more into the modeling, so for two years I was all about the modeling, and then I got over after learning what the industry is really like and started to remember what I really wanted when I was in highschool so I got myself back into school, and I'm determined to finish it so thats more important to me.

AmpedAsia.com: As a model, how easy would you say it is financially? Is it a struggle or are you making a lot of money?
Amy Tran: It's a struggle, import models really dont make that much money. You would think they do but they don't compared to the high fashion industry with million dollar contracts. Most import models work normal jobs.

AmpedAsia.com: So how are you balancing your modeling with school, other jobs, social life, etc?
Amy Tran: Let's just say im exhausted haha, but I know it will pay off since going back to school. I've had to cut a lot of hours from work, and now I'm picky with the gigs ... seeing what's worth doing or not. Time is so precious to me now.

AmpedAsia.com: what do you like to do on weekends/during your spare time for fun?
Amy Tran: I like to go to house parties, go out to eat, watch movies, and be a beach bunny.
