Onegai Twins
Genre: Romance
Type: Series
Onegai Twins sure has an interesting premise; two girls find the house that they think they were born in and the brother that they think is their twin. The boy lets them live in his house, and gradually, the three "siblings" start a love triangle. The anime screams incest, but luckily, there is no sex between siblings.
It sure would be awkward to be living in a house with two girls that you love, especially if one of them might be your sister. Onegai Twins plays up this plot to a good extent, putting in unexpected kissing scenes, dream sequences, and awkward moments. If you think about it, the anime is a little sickening, but it also makes for pretty good entertainment.
The main character, Kamishiro Maiku, is very indifferent around girls. He's a very genuine guy, and this was the ideal character to put in an anime of this sort. The anime is very ecchi, but I felt that the ecchi content was not detracting from the anime. The two girls, Miyafuji Miina and Onodera Karen, had completely opposite personalities. Miina was the extroverted loudmouth while Karen was a shy, quiet, and pleasant little girl. Although Miina was a big talker, she wasn?t incredibly annoying, and instead, she was quite charming. The other characters include Mizuho sensei, whom you know from the prequel to this anime, Onegai Teacher.
The adventures of Maiku involve him in complicated love circles with the school vice-president, his siblings, and a gay friend. There is one episode where Karen and Miina think that Maiku may be gay, and they perform very awkward actions to test his sexuality. The anime is littered with little amusing events like this, and this is the main plot device that is used throughout.
Although Onegai Twins is the sequel to Onegai Teacher, there is very little correlation between the two animes. Mizuho sensei is a minor character in Onegai Teacher; she serves as a mentor for Maiku and the two girls. Mizuho's husband also gets a few scenes here and there, but he does not have any speaking lines.
The animation is quite superb in Onegai Twins. Besides featuring one of the best looking anime characters, Mizuho sensei, all of the characters are drawn beautifully. The series is very colorful and bright, and rarely do you ever have scenes that are dark or gloomy. In contrast to the last few animes I had watched, Onegai Twins was quite cheerful and happy.
The opening and ending feature themes of mystery and romance. The best part about this anime is that the main characters are kept in constant confusion about their feelings. They feel love, but at the same time, they do not know whether it is sibling love or romantic love. The characters' voices are also very fitting to their personalities. Maiku's voice always sounded indifferent to everything around him, while Karen sounded completely innocent, and Miina sounded a bit arrogant. All in all, there are no problems with the sound aspect of this anime.
If you are looking for an anime with a happy ending, then look no further than Onegai Twins. The downside is that the anime is not as exciting or dramatic as some, and it has less of an effect on the audience. Twists and turns within the plot are not major, and overall there is a linear story path. The ending also didn't come as a surprise either. More or less, the anime is just an amusing break.
